Program Description:
Sri Lankan Tea Masterclass: The Art of The Perfect Steep
Go beyond the grocery store tea bag and discover time-honored traditions and Sri Lankan techniques for brewing the perfect cup of tea. Unlock the secrets to the perfect cup of tea in this interactive, hands-on workshop! This session focuses specifically on the bold flavors of Ceylon black tea and the authentic mechanics of tea preparation. We will dive into the essential mechanics of tea preparation, moving beyond the simple tea bag to explore the world of high-quality loose-leaf brewing. We will begin with a foundational look at tea blending, learning the ideal ratios for balancing strength and aroma. During the class, we will prepare (and drink) traditional milk tea and the popular, fresh ginger tea.
When:
• Saturday, July 18, 2026 | 3:30 - 5:00 pm
Where:
• Philip Heit Center (150 W. Main St, New Albany, OH)
• Demo Kitchen on the first floor
Fee:
• $35/person
About the Instructor:
Michelle Michael-Kang is an entrepreneur, educator, and lifelong tea drinker. She co-founded Aachchi’s Tea with her husband as a tribute to their shared love for tea. The brand is a true ode to her grandma, the family's most devoted tea drinker, and serves as a bridge to the warm Sri Lankan tea traditions she grew up with. Aachchi’s Tea promotes the ancient brew and grandma’s wisdom through Ceylon black tea blends, handcrafted in small batches, right here in the heart of Ohio.
In her workshops, Michelle shares the personal rituals and stories behind the perfect cup of Ceylon tea. Participants will join her in exploring the art of spice-blending and mindful brewing, learning how to turn a simple daily habit into a restorative connection to self and home.
